West Point Cadet Observatory landscape for Stellarium
=======================================================
Version 0.4 (10 October 2023)

== Description ==

The Cadet Observatory at the United States Military Academy at West
Point, New York, sits on the top of Bartlett Hall, home of the
Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (PANE). The pictures for
this landscape were taken on the open-air observation platform, on the
roof next to the dome, which is used for star parties and solar
observations. The dome houses a 12" Mead LX 200 Schmidt-Cassegrain
telescope which sits on a Paramount MEII mount. This new observatory
was opened in 2016, replacing an earlier observatory on a different
corner of the building. Starting with the class of 2020, West Point
now offers an academic major in Space Sciences. These pictures were
taken in April 2017.

== Files ==

This file (readme.txt) should have come in a ZIP archive which contains:

  USMA Observatory/readme.txt
  USMA Observatory/landscape.ini
  USMA Observatory/USMA_Observatory.png

== Installation & Use ==

You can easily install this landscape in Stellarium without even
having to open the ZIP archive. Once you have started Stellarium
simply do the following:

1. Open the Sky and Viewing Options menu (left side of the screen)

2. Select the Landscapes tab (along the top)

3. Under “Options” check the box marked “Use associated planet and position,”
   if it’s not already checked. This is generally a good thing to do with
   Stellarium landscapes, as it adjusts the sky view to match the location
   of the landscape.

4. Press the button at the bottom labeled "Add/remove landscapes..."

5. Press the button for "Install a new landscape from a ZIP archive..."

   (Note: If you have a older version of the landscape installed then
    you will need to remove that first before installing a newer version.)

6. Find and select the ZIP file and press "open"

More detailed instructions, with screen shots, may be found at
http://www.spy-hill.net/~myers/astro/stellarium/installation.html

You can make this your default landscape by checking the appropriate box
on the Landscapes tab of the Sky and Viewing Options menu. Or not.

If you have problems installing the landscape this way you can also
try opening the ZIP file and moving the folder to wherever your
version of Stellarium keeps landscapes. But if you need to do that
then you probably have an older version of Stellarium and should
consider upgrading.
