1) Message boards : Help! : Couldn't delete file (filename) errors (Message 4776)

Thanks Nicolas for the reply. I was ok on v5.2.13 and then after the crash the problems started. I tried upgrading to v5.4.11 but it was still happening, so then I uninstalled and deleted everything then reinstalled, but this didn't fix it either. Since the problem has happened now on two different versions, should I still upgrade to the latest test version (v5.8.3)?

Thanks again for the help and have a great week!

Way cool SS. I've been watching it using the 'Show Graphics' button, but not as a SS. The only hiccup so far was when it first starting rendering the graphics. So far so good. I found out it will not run when I Full Size the window though, never makes it work, just a blank screen and it will lock up, but once the window crashed I found out the wu was still running and was able to show the graphics again (came up in the small window again). Can also resize the window to almost FS and it still works, but once it covers the entire screen it locks up (the SS, not the wu). {Edit} If I move the window around it pauses a moment then starts falling again.

I've seen the message!! APL4M...{Edit} A Pirate's Life For Me. Just seen Dead Men Tell No Tales.

{Edit} It's Yo Ho A Pirate's Life For Me. Also, when you reopen the window, it takes a moment to show the falling script, and it also stops briefly before it starts to rotate. Probably my graphics card and 1.6 P4 Mobile...

Hi all. I've been having a few problems since Einstein crashed in early Dec, mainly the error 'Couldn't delete file (filename)...' and cannot complete a Einstein wu without it failing either. I cannot manually delete those files that BOINC could not either.

I have posted to other forums, but would like to try all avenues for help. Reading the posts throughout Pirates I've seen a lot of knowledgeable responses from the Capt'n and the crew, so it couldn't hurt to ask here too.

Here's a list of other posts on the issue:

Einstein
BOINC
Leiden

Thanks in advance to all and have a great week!

{Edit} Forgot to add I'm on Win2k with the following:
01/08/2007 12:58:07 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for windows_intelx86

5) Message boards : Announcements : Pirates@Home upgraded to BOINC 5.7.5 (Message 4429)

I guess I'd better upgrade finally. Is there a good choice of the newer versions that is stable and well used?

The current recommended version of BOINC is 5.4.11 for Windows and Linux, 5.4.9 for Mac.
I like the development version (5.8.0) It has the standard caution: MAY BE UNSTABLE - USE ONLY FOR TESTING but has been under test for some time and I can't see any reason not to try it out!

Download BOINC client software

5.8.0 looks good to me, except for a bit of slowness establishing a connection between the client and manager. However I would bet it will not be released as a recomended client. There are still some display issues that I think they will want to fix before recomending it.

Thanks Contact and JKeck. i upgraded to v5.4.11. Still didn't fix the 'Can't delete file...' issue I'm having though. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Hi Capt'n. I just noticed this message today in the BOINC msg log:

12/26/2006 10:32:03 PM|Pirates@Home|Message from server: Starting in 4 days and 20 hours, project will require a minimum BOINC core client version of 5.4.0. You are currently using version 5.2.13; please upgrade before this time.

I guess I'd better upgrade finally. Is there a good choice of the newer versions that is stable and well used?

I thought I'd post a note on it to let other 'old' users that might not check the log know about the impending required update.

Wish you and yours Eric Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
