The United Federation of Planets, huh? That'll burn in pretty quickly. I wonder how LCARS copes with that. :-)

Ok, what now? 4/10/2008 5:05:05 PM|Pirates@Home|Message from server: Need version 6.1 or higher of the BOINC core client. You have 5.10. ____________ ![]()

OK, they run over 100% again. It's now waiting to run at 100.887%

RDC wrote: Ok, what now? Sit tight, it's only for this test run. The call went out to projects to test their apps with the 6.1.14 client, which the alpha crew are now testing. So I brought out the last version of lalanne we already ran to try it out, and I bumped the client requirement up to 6.1 so that they would get the work. After this run I'll bring it back down. ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

At that point I exited and restarted BOINC and the wu restarted and finished ok at 100% (but this time I did not activate graphics or screen saver). Also... Graphics works as before but on the 2nd activation of the screen saver or graphics I see only a white background with the spinning cube. This happens on all machines I've checked for this. Keeping with the Yogi-isms ... "It's déjà vu all over again" theme, I remember this happening many months (years?) ago with certain project graphics. Proteins@home comes to mind. I haven't seen this problem for a long time. ____________ ![]()

At that point I exited and restarted BOINC and the wu restarted and finished ok at 100% (but this time I did not activate graphics or screen saver). I think I know why this is. These tasks are supposed to run for 1 hour of CPU time. Yet in wall-clock time that is, on my system at least, around 51 minutes. I have had one of them restart a couple of times now during the night. I've suspended all other projects to see how long it will now take the Pirates task to complete itself. CPU time is increasing and well over the 1 hour runtime mark. Yet this is external time showing, not internal as the task restarted from zero percent. On a normal application switch-over time of 60 minutes, these Pirate tasks will never finish in time, unless they're in deadline priority mode and run alone. ____________ Jord. So in the end it ran for 59 wall-clock minutes. Just showing a lot longer due to all the restarts.

Ageless wrote: And since the checkpointing on the Pirates task seems to either not work or is non-existent, it'll restart from zero when it restarts on its next 60 minute run. It should checkpoint after each MC simulation, so if it's not doing that correctly then there is a bug. It should also stop after it finishes a MC simulation if the CPU time is over 3600 sec. That should be accumulated, even if it's been stopped and restarted. If not, that should be looked at. ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

It says it checkpoints, but it doesn't resume from any last checkpoint when the application restarts at a later time. It restarts from zero percent. It should also stop after it finishes a MC simulation if the CPU time is over 3600 sec. That should be accumulated, even if it's been stopped and restarted. If not, that should be looked at. As I pointed out, the first one restarted multiple times. The CPU time in the end was 8923.109375 seconds. The second one only ran for 3642 seconds, wall-clock time. CPU time was never near the 3600 seconds mark. ____________ Jord. Used to be a single voice that vanished in a crowd. Vague just like a distant sun when hidden by the clouds. Graphics are stuttering very much in the present run, each time it tries to do a trickle up or down.
