Evidently the time isn't based upon the work left. Work is done separately and the counter only tells it how long to do it. Work keeps going even if the counter is stopped. It was behaving like this since..... forever. And IIRC few/many other projects' graphics windows do behave the same. Especially if the displayed data has nothing (or not much) in common with the calculated science inside. I got two other project units running and CPU usage for this primates shows 0%. It's a rogue process! Arrrrr! It gets interesting when you manages to open a plenty of graphics windows from different projects at once, all jumping and rotating and flying around, even on a single core machine ,-) ____________ Peter .-) ![]()

Was there a font required to be on the computer to see this? All I saw were gold blocks with what looked like symbols but they weren't clear at all. Usually I can see the letters/numbers in the graphics but not this round.

Usually I can see the letters/numbers in the graphics but not this round. The font is built into the executable from a xpm file. Hmmm, gold blocks sounds like a very old version of starboard, back from when I was working out how to get the glyph images loaded. You should have downloaded the latest and greatest starboard, but maybe something prevented that? What version of the client? What platform? RDC wrote: Ok, I got another WU and did a screen capture of what I was seeing: Strange. That really looks like an older test version of starboard. Here is a test you might try. Copy the starboard .exe to a test folder, and create an empty text file there called "out.txt". Then double click on the .exe file. This runs it "standalone". I do this to test the app before I release it. A graphics window should pop up. See if it looks the same. ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

Looks more like you have corrupt graphics. Have you tried cleaning out the fan on your videocard? Checked that it doesn't corrupt at OpenGL games? Tried a slower throughput speed? Tried to (re)install (newer) drivers?

It's a relatively new video card (and yes, it was removed, blown out and cleaned about a week ago). I do have a software conflict of some sort on this computer that effects videos (locks up periodically and sometimes crashes) but otherwise everything looks normal on displays except this particular graphics. Drivers have been removed and reinstalled multiple times over that and it was last done last week.

That is very strange indeed. But I do like a good puzzle. I wonder how your machine would handle other versions of starboard. And since I've given away the secret of how to run these "standalone", we could try it, if you like. You'll find copies of the older apps in the download folder, in http://pirates.spy-hill.net/download/. Do all the glmatrix versions of starboard show up the same? Do any of the others have problems? This screensaver uses "texture mapped" images for the glyphs. The last lalanne used a texture map for the background, so if there is a problem with that it could indicate a problem with textures in your GL libraries or card. And perhaps other members of the crew also have ideas on how to solve this puzzle. ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

Well with the help of testing the exe's from various past runs, I've come to the conclusion it is the video card that is bad. I'll be going to get a new one later today and hopefully it will solve the problems (if not, I still like to have spares of everything).

RDC wrote: I still think the computer is possessed by evil spirits... No, I think it's a broken video card as well, a blown capacitor or something like that as the first picture you show in this thread shows definite corruption of graphics. Those 'characters' in the middle, at the bottom... they give it away. But you can always try dancing around it, being stark naked while holding a dead chicken, feathers and all. Deep freeze chicken doesn't work. ;-) ____________ Jord. Used to be a single voice that vanished in a crowd. Vague just like a distant sun when hidden by the clouds. Well a new video card seems to have solved problems so far. The lalane exe's only come up white with a black border for me but everything else I'm seeing what I am supposed to be seeing now.
