I have two accounts both in my name, using the same email address. How do I get them merged?

I only see one account on this project with that name or e-mail address.

I have one (joined March 06) with 17.1 credits and another joined 24 Sept 04 with 106 credits. I just did a search for "Eliot" in the Profile zone. The one that has 106 credits (CPIT 38d9c2513df821365bc14c0b6e60d6be) should merge into the other one.)

Found them.

BOINC has no tool that I know of to merge accounts. I can either do it by hand or write the tool. I'd rather write the tool, but it will take a while.

I have 106 credits in the other account. If this is something you have to do often, write the code. But if it's just for me... don't waste your time. Thanks for the offer though.

106.39 free GoldenStones on our ship - that's a plenty of [[Gold Dust]]. If it should be left for some lost soul unused, we could fight for it then ;-)

(We could also split it between all of us, but I suppose noone would agree with such small share after dividing it evenly - pirates' nature.)

BTW, except the pirates' currency, would such merging code be able to join also messages, computers and results, teams, avatars and dubloons? :-D
Prerequisite of trust would be probably the same e-mail address - whether it's enough in arbitrary case?

No. Not enough. Must be password based authentication, or I can steal your account by knowing your address. Yarrr!

Or I could yours knowing it too ;-)

No, I meant the questioned accounts must have been for sure authenticated by project server (with its own authentication mechanism) for the same e-mail address, i.e. I hope you should not be able to steal my account only by knowing my e-mail address. You would have to either capture or redirect confirmation emails coming to my address, or log in to my account and change it's email address to yours, which seems not to be possible without knowing the password.

I'm not thinking of automating the process, except to make it easy for the project administrator do to the actual work. He or she will have to decide whether or not to do it based on whatever information they deem necessary. This should be so rare that I could try to do it by just database commands to add and subtract credit. But the hosts attached to the old account should also be assigned to the newer account.

A web form to do this will be an interesting diversion on a cold winter night in port. Only the project administrator would be allowed to use it.

But the hosts attached to the old account should also be assigned to the newer account.

The same way like when merging the hosts, old data go into new host? In the case of an account, the opposite could be more interesting for a user, to keep the former account and insert the 'successes' of the newer one into it.

(Thoughts for the far future:)I was also thinking about merging the messages from both accounts (as "not to loose some of them"), but this could be also distracting for other people. Especially if the two sets of messages would timely overlap. When merging two hosts, it is not allowed, the two must be timely separated.
