I've made some changes to the code so that when you are put 'in the brig' then you loose your seaman status on the wiki. I've also added more explicit restrictions. The idea is that if you are suspended/banished on the discussion site then you also cannot use the wiki at all (for now - later we may allow just reading). It needs some testing, so I'm throwing a few of the crew in the brig. No hard feelings...

In the Brig again?! It's not my fault. It was the bad batch a grog.
It's good to be out again. The Brig was even more secure this trip. I could not move pages or upload images.
As before, couldn't create or edit pages in the Glossary. Not able to start discussion, but I could add to an existing discussion. I think?
I could read all wiki pages while in the Brig.

When someone's in the brig, the picture hides her/his achievements (credit, RAC, dubloons). Is it by accident, or rather by design (sort of punishment)?

By design, exactly as you thought.

Okay, I've done a bit more now to secure the brig. If you are in the brig you should not be able to edit even talk pages, or in fact to view any page. We'll relax that last bit after the first test.

If this works, we won't be hearing from a few of the crew for a while. Best not to be on deck when I come out of my cabin...

It's sort of like waiting for the astronauts to come back into radio contact after they went behind the moon.

They are out of the brig now. Let's see what they have to report.

During previous sentences to the brig, I was tossed in without having to log out.
This trip to the brig I needed to log out (and back in) to be locked out of the Glossary, but didn't need to log out for the brig to take effect here.
After logging out, I was asked for e-mail and password when clicking the link to the Glossary. After entering info, the browser showed page not found on server but login to Pirates@Home was successful.
I did get to the Glossary once while I was in the brig and was able to create and edit pages, but tried several times before and after without luck.

Have I been put into the brig again today, or not? If so, I missed it. It seems like the last stay in the brig did not good to my health - it feels like schizophrenia: the [[Special:Listusers|Pirates list]] tells me I'm in the brig (no chief seaman), Pirates' pages (especially Your Account) suggest the opposite. ( I have a slight hope, possibly the two are only out of sync. ;-)

A bucket of fresh water to the face would probably do good...

My experience this round was similar to that of Contact, except that I was always able to enter the Glossary on second effort. That is, my first click on the Glossary link at the top of this page would result in the log-in page being called up. However, clicking the glossary link a second time without entering anything into the log-in boxes allowed me into the wiki pages with no problem. I was able to do this despite logging in/out multiple times.

Once in the Glossary, I was not listed as being in the Brig at any time though I was always in that state on the Pirates@Home pages.

Heh, the same happened to me a hour ago. I was looking at Contact's account page, then I clicked the Glossary link ang IIRC I've got the log-in page. On second click I got in without haveing to log in. Few seconds later I've seen in the User list that I'm in the brig, so my thoughts were that Capt'n just woke up, left his cabin and plays with those he encounters on the deck :-D (so I ignored the log-in issue)

Thank you for the reports. It sounds like it still does not work as hoped, and I will have to sort through whether it's just how I configured it (mis-configured it) or if it's in the MediaWiki code, which I'm getting somewhat familiar with (but not much, it's much larger than the BOINC code, and more complicated).

Pepo, I did not put you in the brig this time, so it's probably set that way on the wiki from last time. Try logging out and logging in again to see what happens.

This time I did make some attempt to intercept the "you must log in" redirects on the wiki side and sent them to the BOINC side, but I didn't see any of that really working. I may need to ask for some help from the MediaWiki developers for that. I don't think they envisioned this kind of arrangement between two such pieces of software when they set up their authentication plug-ins, not that they should have.

It seems I may need to find a way to transmit to the wiki at least the fact that the user's status has changed on the BOINC side and so their credentials should be re-examined. I could have it check your status for every page you load, but that would be overkill.

More to think about. Thank you all again.

I did already log out and in some 4 hours ago. OK, now I've tried again (sorry for long log, possibly not fully exact, but as far as the memory serves):
- went into Glossary - still "in brig",
- logged out
- on (usual Pirates') login page, entered email+passwd and pressed the next button (not the Account key one! and for sure I've neither entered the account key nor email+passwd again)
- Error: you have to supply the account key! (but IIRC upper right corner already contained my avatar and Logout pic),
- (I've possibly tried to enter "Your account" page and got some error, not sure),
- entered Glossary link - Login page,
- pressed browser's Back button - got my correct user page,
- again Glossary link - OK,
- User list - Pepo still in brig.

Then I went back to Pirates forum, logged out, logged in with email+passwd (no Account key error), entered Glossary link - Login page, browser back, again Glossary - OK. And still in brig.

Uffffff. Now I really need a pint of grog. [size=-2]Jord, when will you meet your mum next time?[/size]

Today I took a look into Glossary again (without logging out first). Still the same - "You have to log in first to ..." (I don't remember whether edit or anything else, but this time it was Wiki informational page, not usual Pirates' login page). Now I only refreshed my browser's window and I could immediately see the Glossary's initial page. (If it does matter, still tested with IE 7).

And obviously still in the wiki brig.

It seems to be a cache thing. It's with Mozilla as well. Wormholio and I were working on this yesterday, him changing code, me testing. Not fixed yet.

I tried later yet again, the displayed wiki warning was exactly (as visible)

I now suspect that you have been singled out for this because you are a chief. I'll check the logic again for assigning groups on the wiki based on BOINC status.

Nope, it was not because Pepo is (or should be) a chief. But I did revise how one gets into or out of the brig. Let's see if Pepo gets out of the brig now.

It also looks like there will be a way to make these changes take effect immediately, without requiring that the user logout and login again. But I have not yet set that up.

I'm now definitely out of the wiki brig too.

Currently it's still the same behaviour, first time (really only the first time) I get to Glossary after opening a new browser instance, I do get this login request. After refreshing the page, I'm in. Regardless of whether I did Pirates' logout-login cycle in the same window previously or not. Maybe some sort of dynamic cooke created by that browser instance/connection? It is not enough to create new tab in browser, this way I get in. New instance.

One more observation: When I open new browser window and go directly to http://pirates.spy-hill.net/glossary/Glossary, I'm not able to log in (neither through the (buggy?) submitted link "You must log in (http://pirates.spy-hill.net/glossary/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&REPLACE_THIS_WITH_12_SPACESreturnto=Special:Userlogin), nor with the link in uper right corner, to view other pages.", but when I create new tab in the browser and open the main Pirates page (while automatically logged in there), suddenly I can in the first tab execute these links and get to Wiki's "Log in / create account" special page. But off course to the Glossary too.

It's official, Pepo is now out of the brig. All charges have been dropped.

He did have to walk the plank on another charge though and we couldn't help it that that shark was there... oh well.

It looks like capt'n is still working hard on the access rights issue.

Yesterday on entering the Glossary for the first time (from new browser instance) the usual Pirates' login page was inviting me. This one was persistant to page refresh attempts, but I was again able to go back one page and again forth - entering the Glossary main page.

Today yet another page can be seen upon entering the Glossary link:
Internal error
Hooks array for event 'LoginRequired' is not an array!

Backtrace:
etc...

[later]This eror seemed to be some temporary issue. Now I'm each time getting the Pirates' login page. But it is still not necessary to really log in. Back and forth.[/later]

Still the prerequisition for this all is that I'm going to Glossary from any regular Pirates' page (while logged here in). When visiting Glossary as the first page, Glossary's login is requested.

Now, when entering Glossary from Pirates' pages, I get immediately in. Even from new browser instance.

When entering http://pirates.spy-hill.net/glossary as first link, I get to [[A Pirates Glossary]] page an not-logged-in visitor. There is a [[Log in]] link at the upper right corner. Refreshing the page has no effect. After entering the [[Log in]] link I get to [size=+1]Log in[/size] page, Username: box is pre-filled with my usernickname. Refreshing the page or pressing the browser's Back button causes additional [[logout]] link appearing at the upper right corner. Refreshing the page again or pressing the browser's Forward button logs me fully in (with all usual links up there).

It's the 1.00 RAC. Otherwise the able_seaman becomes disabled :-(

We should agree on the rules how could a brave seaman become a seawench. (Or is any surgery necessary?)

What does that mean? Why seaman, why not able_seaman, what is the difference?

It's the 1.00 RAC. Otherwise the able_seaman becomes disabled :-(

:-(

And shouldn't that be seawench in my case?

We should agree on the rules how could a brave seaman become a seawench. (Or is any surgery necessary?)

I don't know, I was born that way. ;-D

But my actions on the ship are as good as any guys'

I am a full abled crewmember of the ship

we should be in this together, all of us, pirates and wenches
