I dont want to stir up a mutiny, but there should be credits for any finished WU, should be no problem to update sql database accordingly!

Most of us have the only valid result in a WU, and well, its only testing, so give good gold to the most reliable fellows among us!

Thats what I claim, c'mon mates, join this!

Hear Hear,
My WU Clocked up 11 hours runtime because I hadn't realised that time to go was only updating while graphics were on. It finally completed normally this morning when I checked the graphics. I got no points because too many error results had returned 15.5 hours earlier.

Well, I'm certainly willin' to consider the proposition.

But it seems to me that the most reliable members of the crew are those who have proper pirate profiles. So it gets me wondering, if I'm going to be diggin in the database, how to select out just that lot. No promises here now, it just gets me wondering...

This WU is in a similar but different boat.

I saw on the scroll thread that some had a way of getting the WUs to run faster.

The other person in quorum did that and instead of getting the 40+ credits for my work, I got 7.

I'm not a credit hound, but I followed the rules and let it run. I'm a computer dope so I wouldn't know how to speed up the WU even if I wanted to.

Yer makin me nervous here Cap'n. I've been a good swabbie, I've logged a profile and I earned those 400+ dubloons. I just can't bear to see them sitting in Davie Jones' locker while we just sail away.

Maybe I could grab them off the bottom while you keel-haul me. I promise I won't scream too loud.

Would it not also be fair that those of use who dont run graphics should get the small amount of credits we claim for the few minutes we are processing the results?

If I see a pirates app running i do open the graphics, but since they often seem to be relased in the middle of the night (Irish time), and i dont run BOINC as a screen saver, I end up using up alot of CPU time... to just have the WU stopping because the graphics weren't open. Also, even if I am sitting at the PC there is no guarantee that I will spot a WU has downloaded.

Surely, from no other point of view, by not displaying graphics we are testing that bit of code that aborts the result. Is that not a valid test? Does that not deserve some gold? If all of us were running graphics, there would be no testing of the abort process!

yarrr!

Paul.

over anxious for some gold ... I've gotten burned by that too. but, i have had 3 wu's come in, suspended & enabled graphics for each, the first taking a very long time and the other two pop right thru?! I'll let them run as long as possible, but some just don't run very long at all.

but to the Captain's favor, I have seen a wu that completed successfully, being the only one, and was granted some gold dust! Aaargh!!

It's not quite time to close this thread. I agree with the general idea of good gold for good work. This strange scroll application we ran last week timed out earlier with an error if the graphics were not started, and thus no gold. I have now remedied that.

It were not difficult, though not one simple command. I've created a slightly more forgiving validator daemon for this application. If your workunit (Result) ends with that particular error (-129), and if your claim is not too extravagant then you are granted the claimed credit. It's not as much as had you run the whole thing, but it's somethin' fer your troubles.

I've run this over the whole collection of work done last week, so check your purses.

Any further complaints about credit will have to be dealt with in a Pirate's court.

What's the definition of extravagant, though?

One of my examples where I didn't get that 12 credit, yet I ran it for a longer time than the other person who also errored out and who got 0.62 .. Or this result which took me quite a long time and errored out in the end, because I went to bed and so didn't click on the graphics again?

So a next time I'll just let them run for the little amount of time and crash them, without checking the forums or whatever they do?

And oh fun, in preview the attachment text overlaps the quote. Let's see if it does so in the forums as well. :)

According to the results of the computer's benchmarks, I personally do hold the claim for pretty extravagant ;-)

I still have one pending result claiming 25.05 for 15261 sec. After reading the book for some time the system became soooooo busy that the app got no heartbeat response and was punished. It was then launched again but without opening the graphics.

As there are no more WUs, it must be probably un-pended manually.

It's subsequently been raised to 14 to aid testing.

My results were claiming a bit more because I slowed the scrolling down to 1/3, to be able to read it, and left it slower for testing reasons.
