I was reviewing my most recent WU's, and I noticed an odd trend.

Each WU is distributed to two hosts. For the WU's that I received on Feb.07, the other host was the same, for all WU's. As it turns out, all of the results from the other host ended with an error ("No Reply"). I succesfully completed all of my WU's.

Even though the other host never completed the WU's, I DID receive my credits. That's not a problem.

My issue is the non-randomness of the distribution process. With the number of participants, there should be very little overlap of hosts across multiple WU's. By making it random you spread out the risk of not receiving results back.

For Pirates@Home its not a big deal because you are testing, but I think it's something that you should consider.

I think this is an artifact of how we generate work for our tests. One or a few WU's are created at one time, then there is a pause, then more created. So if two hosts connect at the same time, they are likely to get the same or similar WU's.

In a production environment where we fill the queue with more than the cluster (the whole Crew) can handle there should be more random distribution of work.
But it is indeed something to watch out for.
