Last week, I have released Dotsch/UX 1.0. - Dotsch/UX is a Linux distribution for BOINC which easily installs and boot from a USB stick, hard disk and from diskless clients and also has some interfaces to setup the diskless server and the clients automatically.

For more informations have a look at http://www.dotsch.de/Dotsch_UX

How about a bootable Live CD?

Do you mean, that it boot from CD and stores the data on a USB stick or network share ?

Yes. There are still many computers out there that won't boot from a stick, but will boot from CD. So a CD which can install on a hard drive partition, or work from a diskless client, would also be useful. And the Live CD could also be used just to demonstrate the whole process, before someone decides to allow use of the stick, even if it can't save the results (perhaps configured with WU's from several of the projects already in progress, to show them off?)

In any case, it's a cool thing you've done.

Thank you very much ! - I will try to implement this in the next releases.

Hmmm...

Dare I use it on the work computer over the week nights and weekends? Let's see how fast my work computer really is. I have booted Ubuntu on it before. As long as I don't install anything on it, it shouldn't be a problem, since the network activity is negligible.

Any plans to do one with boinc 6.4.5 soon?

Today I have released Dotsch/UX 1.1. Mayor changes are the availability of a 32 bit (i386) and 64 bit (x64) distribution, mixed i386 and x64 diskless client on one single diskless server, build in BOINC client 6.4.5 and bug fixes
for the USB, hard disk, diskless server and diskless client Installation tools.

The distribution is available at http://www.dotsch.de/Dotsch_UX
